NIST to Sponsor Two Forensic Scientists to Attend and Present at the 2012 International Association of Identification Annual Training Conference to be Held in Phoenix, AZ.
The National Institute for Standards and Testing NIST has graciously offered to provide funding for two bench level analysts working in the following areas: trace evidence, forensic biology, serology, DNA, drug chemistry, or other forensic chemical specialty to attend next year’s annual educational conference in Phoenix, Arizona from July 22 through 28, 2012 . This funding will be provided on the condition that those two individuals present a paper respective to their field. NIST will reimburse the selected individuals for registration, travel, and up to 5 days lodging to attend the conference. Interested candidates will submit their proposed abstract to the subcommittee on forensic laboratory analysis no later than January 15, 2012. Candidates will be selected based on the relevance and quality of their proposed abstract or syllabus. They will be notified well in advance of the deadline to submit an abstract, which is January 31, 2012 to the IAI.

FREE Online Forensic DNA Training Courses Forensic Training Network is proud to partner with the National Institute of Justice to offer a series of online training modules geared toward new forensic DNA analysts employed in a U.S. state or local public crime laboratory at NO CHARGE. These modules provide effective and efficient self-learning tools designed to minimize limited resources public laboratories must spend training new analysts. The content for these modules was developed according to the Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis Methods (SWGDAM) Training Guidelines and the DNA Advisory Board (DAB) Quality Assurance Standards.

2011 Continuing Education for Forensic Professionals Program The 2011 Spring Program will be a week of training with 35 different courses. All courses are FREE to those working in the public sector and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The first 100 people who register (1 person per agency location) also receive free transportation. Lodging will be FREE to all approved attendees. The schedule allows attendees to participate in more than one course throughout the week. |

Year Round Training Events
| Federal Bureau of Investigations Training and Records Testimony Team (TRTT) The Training and Records Testimony Team (TRTT) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division provides training and expert witness testimony in the science of fingerprints, including all the proper preparation/ processing of friction ridge skin, and criminal history report data to agencies with authorized access to the CJIS systems. The TRTT offers a variety of classes which are conducted at the FBI/CJIS Division in Clarksburg, West Virginia. In addition, some of our courses are available via Video Teleconferencing (VTC). Agencies are encouraged to send their employees to the FBI/CJIS Division to obtain fingerprint and criminal history training from the TRTT. The internal classes are scheduled on a quarterly basis and advertised on the FBI's Internet site at http://www.fbi.gov.
